CITY OF INKSTER, WAYNE COUNTY, MICHIGAN

Location: Council Chambers, 26215 Trowbridge St., Inkster, Michigan
Lead Service & Water Main Replacement Report (PDF)
The purpose of the proposed project is to replace lead services and aging, substandard water mains. No level of lead in water is considered safe, and replacing lead service lines will improve water quality. Many of the city’s water mains are between 50 and 90 years old and are at the end of their service life. Water mains identified for replacement include those with a high rate of breaks and leaks or those only six inches in diameter. These will be replaced with new 8-inch mains.
Project construction will include installation of new copper water service lines, replacement of water mains, fire hydrants, and main valves.
Long-term impacts: Improved water quality and greater reliability in water supply.
Short-term construction impacts: Street closures, detours, noise, dust, and brief water service interruptions.
Estimated cost to users: Incorporated into current water and sewer rates. The City will pursue low-interest loans and grants to help offset costs.
