Mayor Nolen and Community Partners Unite to Address Utility Needs for Inkster Residents
Mayor Nolen, in partnership with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and the Wayne Metro Community Action Agency, hosted a Customer Assistance Day at the Booker T. Dozier Recreation Center, focused on addressing the pressing utility needs of Inkster residents.
The event provided essential support for residents who need assistance with utility bills and access to other vial resources, such as housing and childcare. Mayor Nolen is dedicated to tackling the root cause of these disparities, recognizing the importance of Inkster’s households being safe, healthy and adequately supplied.
“We are committed to transforming our city and assisting our residents with resources needed to thrive,” said Mayor Nolen. Today’s event is the result of our community partners uniting to address the need for utility assistance and our city administration's commitment to transformation. Whether it's providing one-time or recurring assistance, the goal remains the same: to create lasting change, a transformation that's permanent.
Inkster is rich in history, culture, and resilience. But we also recognize that our majority Black community has often faced barriers that others have not. One of the areas where these challenges are particularly evident is in utilities. Access to clean water and affordable electricity shouldn't be luxuries, but for too many in our community, they are. Today, as we provide support for essential needs like utilities as we're also addressing the deeper issues that perpetuate to these disparities.
As Mayor, I am committed to ensuring our residents have more equitable access to resources and assistance of all types to ensure households are safe, healthy, and adequate supplied for. My team is working tirelessly to introduce new resources to residents that benefit our residents.
Once again, a heartfelt thank you to our community partners, residents, and everyone who contributed to making today possible. But let's remember, transformation doesn't end here. It's an ongoing journey, and together, we will continue to strive for a better tomorrow.
