Citizens Email and Letter Writing Campaign:
Street Lights on Michigan Ave at Harrison and Henry Ruff
As a result of a Signal Optimization Project, a federally required
project, on Michigan Ave (Detroit to Canton), twenty seven lights are
being modernized throughout the corridor and at least two signals have
been recommended for removal (Harrison and Henry Ruff Roads). This
recommendation is being made because these lights did not meet the
minimum warrants for traffic volume. As a result, the Michigan
Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to remove the traffic lights.
Both signals are currently flashing which is required for ninety days
prior to their removal.
During a city council meeting, representatives from MDOT suggested that
residents email or write their office to comment on the removal of the
lights. Citizen input may assist in the retention of these lights.
Though the comment period for Harrison Road has closed, comments are
encouraged. MDOT is still accepting comments for the Henry Ruff Signal
until May 1, 2009.
