Police Department Badge PatchThe Inkster Police Department maintains an Animal Control Officer, Five days a week, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Officer Ron Thomas has served in this capacity for nearly thirty years and is probably one of the busiest Animal Control Officers in this area. Last year Ron collected Approximately 988 animals, the majority of which were dogs.

Hours for Dog Pound Pick-Up

If you believe that your dog was picked up by Animal Control or you have received a violation and want to speak to Officer Thomas you may call the pound at (313) 562-5020, between 11:30am and 1:00pm to arrange to pick up your pet.

It is important for citizens to note that we deal with domestic animals and do not pick up wild animals, such as squirrels or raccoons. If the animal is injured and/or in a trap we will do he best to assist. Otherwise, citizens should call Varmint Police (734) 729-0858. If you have a problem with a stray or vicious dog in your neighborhood, you may call (313) 563-9869 and request the Animal Control Officer.

Residents should understand that all dogs are required to be licensed (City Ordinance 91.15). A license may be obtained at the Recreation Complex (Middlebelt north of Michigan Avenue). The resident must have proof of a rabies vaccination. Call (734) 728-7530 for further information. Failure to comply with the Ordinances may result in fines up to $500 and/or ninety (90) days in jail... The City has a zero tolerance policy and does issue violations even on first contacts

Unleashed and/or Unlicensed Animals Will Not Be Tolerated.
