Press Release: City of Inkster Census Campaign

For Immediate Release
July 23, 2010

The Constitution of the United State of America requires that a count of the population be performed every 10 years to determine how many representatives each community is given in congress and to determine how government resources are allocated. It may be surprising to learn that there are still hundreds of residents in the City of Inkster who have not been counted in the 2010 Census.

There are Census Enumerators working in Inkster 7 days a week to verify that reported vacant property is actually vacant and to visit occupied households where people have not responded to the census questionnaire. Individuals who do not own or rent a property, but reside upon the property still need to be counted. If you are asked questions that pertain to a property near you, please respond. When residents don’t make the time to be counted, it is our responsibility to count for them.

We are aware that a vast majority of the City’s residents have fulfilled their responsibility by complying with the 2010 Census. We thank you. It is a fact that those who have not responded to the census will unknowingly become a drain on the resources of the City. The City must have funds to provide police, fire and ambulance services as well as garbage pick-up and snow removal. The funds for these services are determined by the number of residents in each city. Money for schools, senior services, clinics and hospitals, to name a few, are also determined by the census count.

It is critical that everyone in Inkster is counted. We ask everyone to help us to make sure – Inkster Counts!
