Press Release: City of Inkster Recognized as
Elder-Friendly
For Immediate Release
March 25, 2010
The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging is pleased to
announce that it approved recognition for the Wayne County Elder
Friendly-Livable Community Leadership Team Application for recognition
of their elder friendly community assessment of the City of Inkster at
the January 15, 2010 meeting of the Commission. The Community for
a Lifetime (CFL) Review Panel noted the following strengths of your
assessment:
- Inkster is working to establish a new Senior Wellness Center
- Significant improvements are underway on streets, sidewalks and
lighting infrastructure
- A senior millage supports senior services and parks and
recreation
- A leadership development program in which retirees provide
retraining to citizens seeking employment
- The Community offers several festivals and celebrations honoring
the history, cultural heritage and contributions of the city.
The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging and the State
Advisory Council on Aging established a CFL recognition program in
January of 2007. The purpose of this program is to support and
recognize community efforts to conduct an assessment or initiate an
improvement that helps to make that community more elder friendly or
livable for all ages.
On behalf of the Commission on Services to the Aging and the State
Advisory Council on Aging, we would like to congratulate your team for
this accomplishment. Please accept our sincere appreciation for
the work you have done to improve life for older adults in your
community and best wishes for continued success in future improvement
efforts.
