Regular Council Meeting
November 21, 2011

The Regular Meeting of the Council of the City of Inkster, Wayne County, Michigan, convened in the Council Chambers, 26215 Trowbridge, on Monday, November 21, 2011.

Call Meeting to Order
Mayor Hampton called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance
City Council and the public in attendance pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
Court Magistrate Pamela Anderson administered the Oath of Office to newly elected city Officials: Michael Canty, Marcus Hendricks, Kim Howard, Lorenzo A. Moner, Jr., Dennard Shaw, Timothy Williams, and Mayor Hilliard L. Hampton II

Approve agenda removing November 7, 2011 minutes from consent agenda and adding appointment of Mayor Pro Tempore.

  • Ruth Williams: Requested assistance to sell Goodfellows newspapers on December 2.
  • Willie Johnson: Commented on water bill and lack of response from Administration.
  • Sandra Watley: Commented on layoff of parks and recreation secretary.
  • Darlene Wilson: Commented on meter charge for apartment buildings not equivalent to homeowner charge.
  • Paul: Commented on lack of information given to citizens regarding water rate.
  • Larry Cares: Commented on maintenance of city to attract business.
  • Karen Lee: Commented on water main breaks, pay cuts, clean up, fires, dogs and meters.
  • Courtney Owens: Commented on animal control and offered to purchase computer from city.
  • Shirley Sharpley: Congratulated newly elected council. Questioned how residents notified of new water rates. Suggested payment plan.
  • Dorothy Gardner: Commented on city manager, police chief, senior Christmas party, appointment to library board and newly elected city council.
  • Carmen Mitchell: Congratulations to newly elected council. Requested plans on action and meeting for deficit reduction plan.
  • State Senator Glen S. Anderson and State Representative Richard LeBlanc congratulated newly elected council. Pledged assistance for Goodfellows and offered assistance if needed.

Correct November 7, 2011 minutes by inserting word “Water” before the word “rates” in 11-11-314R resolution.
Council Concerns
Williams: Expressed thank you for vote of confidence to council. Offered suggestions for deficit elimination plan. Instructed Department Heads to dispense correct information to citizens.
Canty: Acknowledge DeArtriss Richardson for successful Marvelettes Gala and Police for their effort.
Hendricks: Expressed thank you for citizen support. Requested breakdown of sewer charges for citizens. Questioned why on water bill and not property tax.
Moner: Expressed thank you for vote to council. Requested more information on senior center, original contracts in City Clerk’s office, number of lawsuits, deficit reduction plan update.
Shaw: Expressed thank you for citizen support. Commented on ideas to serve the people and work as a team.
Howard: Expressed thank you to supporters. Encouraged citizens to contact with concerns.
Mayor: Contact information for Bengals is 734.624.0561 or email bigcitybengals@yahoo.com. Thanked citizens for continued support. Recognized difficult fiscal responsibility. Called for a meeting on November 29 at 5:30 pm to discuss deficit elimination plan with Administration.
Williams: Requested a copy of budget given to new council members.
Canty: Mentioned last meeting for Police Chief Gregory B. Gaskin.
Police Chief Gregory B. Gaskin remarked 41 years in law enforcement, 8 years in City of Inkster. Expressed gratitude to council and citizens for continued support.

There being no further business to come before Council, on motion duly made by Councilman Moner, seconded by Councilman Canty and carried, the Regular Council Meeting of November 21, 2011 was adjourned at 9:25 PM.
