Regular Council Meeting

Monday, January 4, 2010

7:30 p.m.

 

The Regular Meeting of the Council of the City of Inkster, Wayne County, Michigan, convened in the Council Chambers, 26215 Trowbridge, on Monday, January 4, 2010.

During Orientation Session it was moved by Owens, Seconded by Hendricks to go into executive closed session at 7:14 p.m. regarding Pending Litigation.

Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Williams, Seconded by Owens to end closed session at 7:24 p.m.

 

Call Meeting to Order

Mayor Hampton called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m.

 

Pledge of Allegiance

City Council and the public in attendance pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

Honorable Council Present: Michael Canty, Henry Crump, Marcus Hendricks, Courtney Owens, Timothy Williams, Patrick Wimberly, Mayor Hilliard Hampton

 

Approval of Agenda

10-01-001 Moved by Hendricks Seconded by Crump

To approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Carmen Mitchell: Announced Inkster Democratic Club’s 1st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Program

10-01-002 Moved by Canty Seconded by Williams

December 21, 2009 regular meeting minutes with noted corrections.

Motion carried unanimously.

Boards and Commissions

10-01-003 Moved by Hendricks Seconded by Owens

Reappoint Ned Sanders to the Board of Review for a 1-year term to expire on December 31, 2010.

Motion carried unanimously.

10-01-004 Moved by Hendricks Seconded by Owens

Reappoint Sandra Markwart to the Library & Historical Commission for a 2-year term to expire on January 4, 2012.

Motion Carried Unanimously.

10-01-005 Moved by Owens Seconded by Williams

Authorize the repair of three drains and the opening of the concrete ceiling in the property room to allow access to the floor drains at the Police Department. To be paid for out the Building Maintenance Fund Acct# 101-306-931-000

Motion Carried Unanimously.

10-01-006 Moved by Hendricks Seconded by Crump Consider approval of an amendment to the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) By-Laws, Article VI, by adding Section 7, which reads "The annual meeting will held on the regularly scheduled meeting in January of each year."

Motion Carried Unanimously.

10-01-007 Moved by Wimberly Seconded by Owens

Approve settlement not to exceed $15,000

Motion Carried Unanimously.

Council Concerns

Owens: Stated he looks forward to working with Census and thanked DPS for salting streets.

Williams: Shared results of survey conducted at his Town Hall meeting held on December 17, 2009 in which concerns included crime, drugs, public safety, home rentals, Carver homes, children, the Summerfest, etc.

Hendricks: Challenged Council to work together in a better way for 2010.

Hampton: Wished everyone a Happy Holiday Season and encouraged citizens to shop at local businesses.

City Clerk

Looking forward to serving the citizens in 2010.

City Manager

Announced city calendars have been delivered.

Acknowledge the attendance of council members to the National League of Cities Washington Conference in Washington DC, March 13 through March 17, 2010.

 

There being no further business to come before Council, on motion duly made by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Crump and carried, the Regular Council Meeting of January 4, 2009 was adjourned at 8:17 PM.
