Special Council Meeting
September 13, 2008

CALL MEETING TO ORDER

The Special Meeting of the Council of the City of Inkster, Wayne County, Michigan, assembled in Council Chambers, 26215 Trowbridge, Inkster, MI 48141 at 9:15 pm

ROLL CALL

Honorable Council Present:  Canty, Greene, Hendricks, Owens, Williams, Wimberly, Mayor Hampton

In attendance:   Joyce A. Parker, Bill Richards, Molly Tippen, Kim Sledge, Muzaffar Lakhani, Mickey Durham, Ernestine Williams, Ronald Johnson, Carolyn Taylor, Bishop Starghill, Jeannie Fields, Clarence Oden.

The following candidates were interviewed:

Richard Wooten, D. Wayne O’Neal, Steven Aynes, Fred Zorn, Reid Charles

Bill Barlow cancelled due to flooding in his community.

An initial favorable candidate poll was taken:

Greene:             O’Neal, Zorn

Canty:               O’Neal

Owens:             Zorn, O’Neal

Hendricks:        Zorn, O’Neal

Williams:           O’Neal, Zorn (alternate Wooten)

Wimberly:         O’Neal, Zorn

Mayor:              Wooten, Zorn

Discussion continued between council on the qualifications and experience of the candidates selected.

Ron Johnson and Ernestine Williams added comments to the discussion.

A second poll was taken:

Greene:             Zorn

Owens:             Zorn

Hendricks:        Zorn

Wimberly:         Wooten

Williams:           Wooten

Canty:               O’Neal

Mayor:              Wooten

Additional discussion regarding qualifications, tier selections and the need for a unanimous vote.

08-09-237         RESOLVED by Owens, seconded by Hendricks to offer the City Manager position to Fred Zorn. Unanimously adopted. (Mayor retracted his initial vote of Nay and supported the candidate.

There being no further business to come before Council, on motion duly made by Hendricks, seconded by Owens and carried, the Special Council Meeting of September 13, 2008 is adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
