Senior Services

Inkster Senior Services, Inc. has provided supportive services to the senior population of Inkster since 1972.  Services provided enable citizens 55 years of age and older to remain independent.  Our Parks & Recreation Department also offers specific services, click here for their site page regarding Senior Services as well.

Enhance Fitness

The Enhance Fitness Program is a free class geared toward improving the overall fitness and well-being of primarily older adults. All adults are welcome-even those with physical disabilities or who travel by wheelchair. The one-hour classes focus on cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, flexibility, and balance training. A certified fitness instructor leads classes three times a week to provide social stimulation as well as physical benefits to participants.

Transportation is available for medical appointments on Monday,    Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am until 2:00pm.  We transport within a seven mile radius of Inkster.  Shopping transportation is provided to local grocery stores every Tuesday.  Call our office for more information or to schedule a ride.

In-Home Services

Personal Care, Homemaker Services and Respite Care are available through The Senior Alliance, Inc.  (Area Agency on Aging 1-C).  Please call (734) 722-2830 for more information about these services.

Outreach & Assistance

Provides assistance to senior citizens to link them with services available in our community.  MMAP Voluanteer available to offer assistance with Medicare and Medicaid issues.

Recreational Activities

Senior Services has an exercise program and computer classes that are held at the Dozier Recreation Complex.  We also offer activities such as ceramic classes, arts & crafts, Scrabble Club as well as the Inkster Club that meets at our drop-in center on Lehigh.  Please call (313) 561-2891 for information. 

The Recreation Complex has many recreational programs for Seniors in our community.  For more programs that the City offers to Seniors, click here to be directed to the City Program Services.

Friendship Club

Senior Citizens meet at the Recreation Complex on Thursday, 11:00am to 2:00pm to play card games, bingo, dominoes, and socialize.  They participate in workshops and field trips.

Walking and Exercise Program

The Seniors Walking and Exercise Program will begin early fall. The program will help keep you in shape.  Daily walking time and exercise times are monitored by staff.  Don't forget to check our Programs Section for special classes and discounted rates!

Home Delivered Meals

Inkster Senior Services delivers homebound seniors a hot lunch through Wayne County Nutrition Services.  To find out more about home delivered meals please contact them at 1 (800) 851-1454.  Inkster also has three congregate meal sites where seniors can go to enjoy a hot lunch.

File of Life

File of Life is a mini-medical record which is posted on the outside of one’s refrigerator that enables medical personnel to obtain a quick medical history when the patient is unable to offer one.  It contains potentially life saving information when an emergency occurs.  Emergency personnel are trained to look for this file, which is posted in a magnetic red plastic pocket on the  outside of the refrigerator.  These are available to all seniors living in Inkster.  Please stop by or call our office (313) 561-2382 to pick up yours today.

Nankin TransportationNankin Transit

Nankin Transit offers curb to curb transportation services for seniors age 55 and older and disabled individuals of any age.

If you live in one of the four cities, Wayne, Westland, Inkster or Garden City, we can pick you up curb side and take you anywhere within the four cities and up to one mile outside of the four cities. We also serve St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia, Henry Ford Health Center on Haggerty in Canton Twp., and Oakwood Hospital Main in Dearborn.

 The cost of a one way ride is $3.00.

To schedule a ride please call two days in advance for medical trips and one day in advance for any other type of trip.
