Annapolis Avenue Project

The City of Westland and City of Inkster are joining forces to undertake a pavement repair project along Annapolis Avenue between Henry Ruff Road and Middlebelt Road Traffic will be restricted to a single lane one way, with intermittent stoppages of traffic during certain construction activities by flaggers.

Road Closure


In order for the contractor to safely install permanent repairs to the south approach a full road closure is required. Local access will be maintained to properties on either side of the bridge but through traffic on Henry Ruff will be detoured via Palmer to Merriman and Michigan Avenue The detour route will be marked, see reverse for details.

Access


Repair work will be scheduled to maintain a minimum of one driveway open to those properties with multiple driveway entrances. There will be a few individual residences that will have their driveway access temporarily restricted. The contractor will work with those particular residences to find alternate parking while driveway access is restricted.

Tentative Key Construction Dates


These are project and weather dependent:
  • Phase 1 - Tentative start Oct 6, 2015 - complete October 30, 2015
  • Phase 2 - Tentative start Nov 2, 2015 - complete November 17, 2015
  • Phase 3 - Tentative start Nov 17, 2015 - complete November 23, 2015
Phase 1 South Side of Road Repair
The eastbound lane will be closed to traffic to perform concrete removal and replacement. All internal traffic will be directed westbound along the north side of the road. The signed detour route will follow Henry Ruff Road north to Liberty St to Burton St to Pine St and south along Middlebelt Road Road Closure barricades will be placed at cross streets with one way signs directing traffic. Once repairs are complete, and the concrete has cured, westbound traffic will be switch onto the eastbound lanes.

Phase 2 North Side of Road Repair
The westbound lane will be closed to traffic to perform concrete removal and replacement. All internal traffic will continue to be directed in a one way lane traveling westbound along the south side of the road. The same detour route will be used as in phase 1. Once the repairs are complete, and the concrete has cured, traffic will be restored in both directions.

Phase 3 Joint Sealing and Clean Up


The pavement joints throughout the length of the Annapolis Road between Henry Ruff to Middlebelt will be cleaned and resealed. Traffic will be shifted as required with a rolling closure and flaggers in order to minimize impact to traffic. Project clean up and restoration will also be completed in this phase.

Project Detours


The detour route while Annapolis Road is reduced to one way traffic, will be along Henry Ruff Road north to Liberty St, right at Liberty, left at Burton St, right at Pine St, and right on Middlebelt Road and south along Middlebelt Road to Annapolis. The detour route will be signed.
